Construction Supervision and Technical Support for King Abdullah Road and Its Interchanges

Inquiry

King Abdullah Road is one of the most prominent road and infrastructure projects in Al-Qassim Region. It forms a strategic north–south transport corridor linking several major roads and arterial routes, with numerous grade-separated interchanges, bridges and tunnels, within a programme of projects costing SAR 3.4 billion.

Radian Engineering Consultancy undertook construction supervision and technical support for the project. Its scope included reviewing studies, designs, drawings and specifications; assessing engineering solutions and alternatives; supervising construction, quality control, testing and acceptance; resolving utility and service clashes; and coordinating with government authorities, utility providers and contractors. The work was delivered by a multidisciplinary team with expertise in highway engineering, structures, electrical engineering, surveying, geographic information systems and materials quality control.

The contractual works included paving and lighting sections of King Abdullah Road, constructing several interchanges, and completing associated major roads and junctions, reflecting the range of project components and the interaction between roads, structures, utilities and services within a single scope.

Before Radian assumed its consultancy responsibilities, the project had faced challenges and delays extending over several years. These arose from the number of overlapping projects, services and stakeholders, and from introducing a new alignment through an existing urban fabric and utility networks. Radian assessed the challenges, resolved conflicts, developed engineering solutions and alternatives, and improved coordination between contractors, government authorities and utility providers, helping overcome obstacles and advance delivery.

Radian received formal commendations and letters of appreciation from the Emirate of Al-Qassim Region and the regional municipality in recognition of its technical, management and coordination efforts to address challenges, remove obstacles, coordinate contractors, government authorities and utility providers, and support delivery of this vital project.
