Digital Mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Update
InquiryFor Buraidah’s digital transformation and GIS development, Radian updated digital mapping and geospatial databases, integrating city, infrastructure and planning data into a unified central geodatabase to support urban planning, land, road and utility management, and municipal decisions. The municipality’s official annual report confirms the linkage of spatial data and departments to the central database, technical infrastructure development, and creation of Buraidah’s geographic explorer.
The scope included updating Buraidah’s base map and existing-condition mapping; processing and correcting approximately 13,000 survey datasets covering nearly 280 km²; checking coordinates and spatial data and integrating them into GIS; updating the strategic road network, land uses, statutory plans and residual planning parcels; and linking water, wastewater, stormwater, electricity, telecommunications, wadi and flood-path data and other city components.
The work also included operating and updating the central geodatabase; developing layers, digital maps and the geographic explorer; data quality control and documentation; connecting relevant departments; commissioning the system within the municipality; and training, knowledge transfer and technical capacity building. Project documents identify four main workstreams: base-map updates, survey-data processing, GIS database operation and updating, and database activation, training and knowledge transfer.
The outputs improved institutional efficiency, strengthened decision-making, enhanced beneficiary services, and supported urban planning and digital transformation. Radian received an official letter of thanks and certificate of appreciation from Al-Qassim Municipality recognising delivery quality and the project’s impact on the municipality’s geospatial systems.
